Mexico is currently experiencing the brunt of several tropical storms that have brought extreme rainfall. The rain has caused flooding in many places and landslides in higher elevations. Authorities have already recorded structural damage to more than sixteen thousand buildings.

Mexico is also facing major problems with frequent power outages, affecting 320,000 residents. The worst is in the central and southeastern parts of the country, where rivers have burst their banks. Authorities fear that more landslides and flooded rivers could worsen the damage.

According to the Civil Defense, intense rains have affected 31 of the 32 states, with Veracruz, Querétaro, Hidalgo and San Luis Potosi being the hardest hit. The Navy was also involved in rescue operations, evacuating nine hundred residents.

Heavy rains and landslides have damaged over a thousand kilometers of roads in six states, according to the latest information. President Claudia Sheinbaum said that work is underway to support the population and roads are gradually opening and electricity supplies are being restored. Food and drinking water supplies are being sent to the most affected areas, which rescue workers are providing to all those affected.

As tropical storms hit much of Mexico, 8,700 troops were deployed to help. Mexico has been hit by heavy rains several times this year, with Mexico City seeing record rainfall.

Tropical Storm Raymond is moving along the Pacific coast and made landfall on Sunday. It will bring more heavy rain as it moves forward. Raymond is the third hurricane system to form off the west coast of Mexico this week, joining Storm Priscilla and Post-Tropical Cyclone Octave.
