Parts of Texas are currently battling flash floods that have already claimed 24 lives. A massive search operation is underway at a girls' summer camp, where several people are still missing. It was impossible to prepare for the flooding, as the Guadalupe River rose an incredible 26 feet in just an hour.

The flooded Guadalupe River in Texas swept away mobile homes, cars, and even cabins where many residents were vacationing. Few floods are so destructive that they claim so many victims right from the start. By far the worst situation is in the area around the Guadalupe River. This is where the Mystic camp, where 750 girls were, is located. The camp is located near the city of Kerrville, which is located a hundred kilometers from San Antonio.
Rescue teams are searching around the clock for up to 25 children who were among the girls. Flooding has hit several counties in Texas, and a state of emergency has been declared as roads are flooded and phone lines are down. President Donald Trump called the situation shocking and the White House promised additional assistance.
Officials said helicopters, drones and boats will be involved in the search and rescue operation. The work will continue until all the missing are found. On Friday morning, flash flooding in the state led to the declaration of a state of disaster in the Hill Country and Concho Valley. The top Kerr County official assured the public that no one knew such flooding was coming.
The Texas Emergency Management Agency met Thursday to prepare for the situation, but officials said the National Weather Service did not predict the amount of rainfall that subsequently fell in Texas.
